Monster Hunter Stories Anime Debuts October 2 – New Cast & Videos Revealed

The official website of the upcoming anime adaptation of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On, has revealed that the series will premiere this Sunday, October 2nd on Fuji TV. In addition, additional cast members and videos were revealed.

Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On will start its broadcast on Sunday, October 2nd at 8:30am JST on Fuji TV. The anime will also air on HBC, IBC, Sendai TV, Sakuranbo TV, NBS, Tokai TV, Kansai TV, Okayama Broadcasting, TBC and Kagoshima TV. It will also be streamed on various online platforms from the midnight of the 2nd: DTV, U-Next, SoftBank’s Animehodai, D anime store and more. The series will air for a total of 48 episodes.

The series is based on the Monster Hunter Stories game, the spin-off title from the main Monster Hunter series and is scheduled to release in Japan on the Nintendo 3DS later this year.

Additional members of the anime’s cast were revealed:

  • Yui Makino (Misaki Nakahara from Welcome to the NHK) will voice Ayuria

  • Ryota Ohsaka (Motoki Yaze in Strike the Blood) is going to voice Cheval

  • Tetsuo Gotou (Derflinger from Zero no Tsukaima) joins the cast to voice the Village Chief

  • Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki Sakata from Gintama) as Riveruto

  • Nana Mizuki (Hinata Hyuuga in Naruto) is voicing Shimonu

The anime’s production staff includes:

  • Director: Mitsuru Hongo (Crayon Shin-chan, Sakura Taisen: Katsudou Shashin)
  • Series Composer: Natsuko Takahashi (Ore Monogatari!!, Yuyushiki)
  • Anime Character Designer: Takuya Saito (Macross Zero, Sakura Taisen: Katsudou Shashin)
  • Animation Studio: David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hyperdimension Neptunia)

Monster Hunter is one of Japan’s most popular franchises. The series started in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, and has since been on the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U and the PC. To date, the entire franchise has sold over 28 million copies, with the latest main instalment being Monster Hunter 4 for the Nintendo 3DS selling over 4.1 Million copies in Japan. Capcom has recently announced that the game will be releasing outside of Japan as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate earlier this year, which will include additional content. A MMO, titled Monster Hunter Online was announced last year for China only. The beta opened in July last year and little information was released since. The previous major title in the series is Monster Hunter X (Monster Hunter Generations) for the 3DS in late 2015.

The Monster Hunter Stories TV anime, Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On, will starting airing from October 2nd on Fuji TV during its new 8:30am JST timeslot, throughout the Fall/Autumn 2016 season for 48 episodes. More information about the anime will be revealed soon.
